Windows, lamps, veranda posts, railings; anything hanging on the sidewalk was smashed, splintered, and shattered as the two men passed it. Tom hurled himself through the window of the general store; Rusty was close behind. The two men lay amid the ruins of the shop front, gasping for breath, their hearts pounding in their ears.
"Tom," panted Rusty. "We... got... us... a problem.... There's too... darn... many of ,em!"
"Well... that's... easy... fixed... Re...load... and... shoot a few!" gasped Tom. |
Phil has said that the inspiration for When Thunder Rolls came from being hit in the head rather hard. He was in CAT scanner, having his head examined, when the idea came to him. He was listening to a Garth Brooks tape, and the song, Thunder Rolls gave him the key he needed to create the whole story.
As the research progressed, Phil saw that, however improbable, a corporation could own a planet like Red River 4 was, it was still possible. He reasoned that as NASA had been partly privatised it was possible that once we venture in to space in search of new and inhabitable worlds, these planets could become nothing more than real-estate.
Once Phil had the story down on paper, he realised that When Thunder Rolls asked a few very probing questions -- what would you do if you had the chance to change the destiny of an entire world for the better? Would you risk your life, the life of friends and loved ones for strangers?
You can find the answers as to how Tom and Ann Books, Shadow, Kat-Kan-Do, Larry and Stretch, Rusty Rivers, and Mingo, deal with their part in trying to make Red River 4 free.
